A good friend of mine, Julie Mautner, who is a food writer living in St. Remy de Provence just sent me the latest update of who gained and lost Michelin stars in France for 2008. Every year the French culinary world waits with baited breath to see what will appear on the guide. Fortunes can made, champagne bottles will pop or conversely investors will stop pouring money into a failing establishment. No huge surprises this year. Still only 26 three star restaurants with a new one in Marseille (Le petit Nice). I was surprised to see that Jacques Maximin closed his doors and thus lost his two stars.
